Overview

This training is aiming to give you the basic knowledge on operator, resident, bystander and worker exposure risk assessment for plant protection products, with a basic description of principles of the non-dietary exposure assessment and in an introduction to the 2014 and 2021 EFSA Exposure Guidance. This will be delivered virtually in a compact format of two intensive half-days with the opportunity to ask questions.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn significant changes from the 2014 and 2021 model/guidance and from a demonstration of its use through some worked examples
  • Learn from outdoor and greenhouse use in operator exposure risk assessment
  • Learn from an explanation of exposure pathways and from refining the model(s) in residents and bystanders risk assessment
  • Learn from refinement options including DFR studies in workers risk assessment

Neil A. Byron, is working as a Senior Managing Scientist in Exponent UK’s Health Sciences Center for Chemical Regulation and Food Safety. Prior to joining Exponent he was with the UK’s CRD for 18 years. He is a human exposure assessment specialist, having over 25 years of experience in exposure and risk assessment of PPP and is currently involved with the industry’s SeedTropex task Force who are developing a new exposure model for seed treatment.

Jenny Chan

Exponent, UK

Jenny Chan is a Senior Scientist for Chemical Regulation and Food Safety at Exponent in Harrogate. Her expertise and knowledge includes the application of a range of human health exposure models recognized within the European Union and individual Member States for plant protection (Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009), biocidal (Regulation (EU) No 528/2012) and industrial chemical (REACh) exposure risk assessments. She has broad experience with performing and preparing registration dossiers of human health exposure risk assessments for professional and consumer products covering the spectrum of Product Types within the biocidal regulation. During her time at HSE CRD, she represented the UK at Expert Working Groups and delivered technical training and seminars to stakeholders and EU Member States experts for plant protection and biocidal products.

Jane Evans

Exponent, UK

Jane Evans is a Senior Scientist at Exponent in Harrogate. She has experience preparing human health risk assessments and registration dossiers for pesticides and biocides for regulatory submission in the European Union and individual Member State Level. She has previous experience evaluating plant protection product and biocide efficacy, preparing biological assessment dossiers and advising on proposed uses. Jane also has practical knowledge of pesticide application techniques and agricultural practices.

Maria L. Pellizzaro

Exponent, UK

Maria L. Pellizzaro is Managing Scientist at Exponent and has extensive knowledge of many in silico toxicology methods (QSAR). She also has experience in a wide range of human health exposure models for pesticides, biocides and industrial and consumer chemicals, for use both at European Union and individual Member State Level. She has developed strategies to address specific regulatory toxicology and exposure concerns, which have included the use of higher tier exposure assessment approaches.

Simon Scarrott

Exponent, UK

Simon Scarrott is a Managing Scientist at Exponent and has extensive experience in conducting human exposure assessments for biocide and plant protection products and active substance dossier submissions. Simon is experienced in using a range of exposure modelling techniques and provides specialist advice drawing on technical expertise and regulatory experience gained at the UK competent authority and in consultancy. Simon has participated in several expert working groups (such as the ECHA BPC Ad hoc Human Exposure Working Group) and have contributed to several ECHA exposure assessment guidance documents.

Terms of Cancellation / Book without Risk
You can cancel your participation in our online events free of charge and without giving reasons in writing up to 1 week before the start of the event. In the case of later cancellations and non-login to the online event, no participation fees can be refunded.
