Overview

This two-day online training offers a focused exploration of the EU regulatory framework for biopesticides. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the legal requirements and scientific principles behind the registration process for biocontrol agents, including microbials, botanicals, and semiochemicals. Particular emphasis will be placed on the approval procedures for active substances and the authorisation of products, as well as the design and evaluation of environmental risk assessments tailored to biological agents.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the legal and scientific framework governing biopesticides in the EU
  • Differentiate regulatory requirements between chemical PPPs and biocontrol agents
  • Identify types of biocontrol substances (microbials, botanicals, semiochemicals, etc.)
  • Navigate the EU approval process for active substances and product authorisation
  • Assess key components of environmental risk assessment (ERA) specific to biocontrol
  • Apply knowledge to support registration dossiers or advise clients effectively
  • Understand when and how data waivers or literature reviews can be used to meet regulatory requirements.

Who should attend this training?

Sectors that should take part:

  • Chemical industry
  • Biopesticide and biocontrol developers and producers
  • Startups and small and medium-sized enterprises developing biocontrol products
  • Contract research organizations and labs
  • Regulatory affairs

Professional groups:

  • Academic Researchers aiming to translate lab findings into regulatory submissions
  • Industry Experts transitioning to or supporting biocontrol solutions
