Major changes are on the horizon! On 10 June 2025, the final trilogue between the European Parliament, the Council, and the Commission is expected to conclude negotiations on the Green Claims Directive.
Why It Matters:
The directive will ban vague or unsubstantiated environmental claims—such as “climate neutral” or “eco-friendly”—unless they are backed by scientific evidence. This is a direct move against greenwashing, aimed at protecting consumers and promoting transparent, evidence-based sustainability communication.
Key Milestone:
🔹 28 January 2025: First trilogue – mandates and priorities discussed
🔹 24 April 2025: Second trilogue – key provisions reviewed
🔹 10 June 2025: Final trilogue – agreement expected
🔹 2025–2026: Transposition into national law
🔹 By 2027: Full implementation and enforcement, including penalties for non-compliance
To address these developments, the 3rd International Akademie Fresenius Online Conference on Green Claims and Sustainability Labelling in Europe will be held on 10 February 2026.
