This online live workshop – consisting of two half-day sessions – will explain the recyclability of other food contact materials (FCM) next to PET – including the different procedures and the consequences for safety evaluation. It will also focus on FCM from renewable raw materials like products made of wood and other natural materials. The agenda includes presentations from authorities, the scientific sector and the industry.

Eric Barthélémy has been working in the risk assessment of Food Contact Material (FCM) since 2002. He firstly joined the French Food Safety Agency (AFSSA now ANSES) before moving to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in 2007. Overall, he has contributed to the elaboration of guidelines for risk assessment and to evaluation of substances, recycling processes and FCM treatments.

Thomas Gude has been the Deputy Head of SQTS, Switzerland, for over 13 years. He is heading the laboratories dealing with food and non-food analysis as well as with risk assessments.

Sander Koster has been a Food Safety Scientist at TNO for 7 years. Since 2014 he is the Group Leader Packaging Food Safety at Nestlé Research Centre in Lausanne. He was also the Chair of the ILSI expert group on NIAS.

Lydia Richter is a Food Chemist and Head of Laboratory at the Chemical and Veterinary Official Control Laboratory (CVUA) Stuttgart. Her main area of work is focused on method development for gas chromatography analysis of FCM and body contact materials and supervision of the research project for the establishment of mineral oil analysis at CVUA Stuttgart. She is a member of the ‘German BfR Committee on Consumer Products’.

Thomas Simat has been a Professor and the Chair of Food Science and FCM at the Technische Universität Dresden with research on FCM since 2003. He is a member of the ‘German BfR Committee on Consumer Products’ and the ‘GDCh Working Group Consumer Products’.

Sven Sängerlaub has been working as a Professor for packaging technology at the University of Applied Sciences Munich since 2019. He has a background in Packaging Technology and received his doctorate in 2018 from the Technical University of Munich. In 2004 he joined Fraunhofer IVV in the fields of active and intelligent packaging, biopolymers and barriers.
