International Akademie Fresenius Conference "Sustainability and Chemical Production" +++ ONLINE CONFERENCE +++

The European Green Deal and its Regulatory Challenges for the Chemical Industry

Overview Speakers Venue Prices & Services

+++Online Conference+++

This Conference will aim at discussing and evaluating the possibilities for developing a more sustainable chemical production. Producers of chemicals and consumer goods find themselves in an increasingly demanding situation with the impending implementation of the European Green Deal and its chemicals strategy for sustainability. Initially the demands of the new regulatory framework seem clear-cut and purposeful. However, they do leave open many questions: How do we define sustainable chemicals and what is a truly sustainable product? How does chemistry help establish sustainable solutions? How does the concept of safe-and-sustainable by design translate back into actual regulatory standards for chemical producers? Which chemicals can we truly live without? What is the actual environmental footprint of a product?

  • European Commission on the EU chemicals strategy for sustainability
  • Cefic position on the chemical strategy for sustainability: The illusion of good and bad chemicals
  • European Environment Agency: Designing safe and sustainable products requires a new approach for chemicals
  • Between the conflicting priorities of sustainability and the aspiration of a non-hazardous production chain: Examples of sustainability that is currently achieved by means of using hazardous chemicals
  • Safe and Sustainable by Design: Meaning and implementation
  • EFCC on the Commission’s Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability and how to track the industrial transition towards the production of safe and sustainable chemicals?
  • Quantifying and Qualifying Chemical Sustainability from an Industry point of view: SEE-Balance; Eco-efficiency analysis; Value to society; Product carbon footprint; Product Envrionmental Footprint; Safe and Sustainable by Design
  • The concept of essential use: What can it add to the debate?
